RECIPE, DO Kelp Yourself
It’s seaweed foraging season. Sea vegetables are packed with nutrients and fun to pick. Why not go on a hunt this weekend – it’s fun in even the most blustery of weather. There’s an easy-to-follow, very informative guide to identifying, picking, drying and cooking them here. There are more recipes and ideas here – Squash and Seaweed Pancakes and Pesto from the Sea, anyone? Or why not try making your own seaweed face mask?
DO Table Time
A place to follow the changing seasons, a nature table can be used to mirror the outside world in a cosy corner of your home. This creative pastime encourages us to live in harmony with the rhythm of nature, and for small children it can offer a real sense of security. It’s a place to explore nature, learn about growth and decay, and enjoy sensory and imaginative play. Why not go on a nature hunt to start yours this weekend? Find more inspiration here and here
EVENT and DO Jolly Holi-Day
Holi is the two-day Hindu festival of colours. The first day is spent doing religious rituals in front of a bonfire, and the second throwing around rainbow-coloured dry powder paint, coloured water, and water-filled balloons. There are celebrations across Britain. This weekend, join celebrations in London (ticketed) or next weekend in Manchester. Why not hold your own event? Stock up on colours or make your own, invite your friends around (the dress code is white) and throw powders around until you’re all rainbow coloured. Find some more tips here
EVENT Play in a Day
Last year, over 10,000 of us grabbed the chance to have a free music lesson on Learn To Play Day. Actually a weekend, music shops and venues all over the country encourage people of all ages to come and have a go, and get inspired to learn an instrument or dust off some long-forgotten skills. There are free taster lessons, workshops, and even some very special musicians popping into their local store to lend a hand. It’s fun, loud, and, who knows, you may be inspired to take up playing your taster instrument full-time! Find a participating venue near you here
