  1. NEW ISSUE OF GREEN PARENT OUT NOW - This weekend you can get your hands on our latest edition, perfect to snuggle up with for a cosy read. Features include living on a smallholding, Christmas gifts you can make at home, forest bathing, the best free skateparks, hearty veggie meals and how to recognise and enhance your child’s strengths. Inside you’ll find an ethical gift guide and ideas for creating a more restful and rejuvenating festive season. Happy planning! Buy this issue today with free P&P here. Or why not subscribe for yourself or a friend as a Christmas gift!
  2. RECIPE Nuts for Nuts - Our kitchen is piled high with freshly harvested nuts right now; wet walnuts, cobnuts and chestnuts. We’ve been attempting to find some fresh recipes; this Celeriac and Chestnut Soup with Celeriac Crisps is doubly seasonal, using the knobbly vegetable you’ll find cheap and plentiful in greengrocers this week. We’ll also be trying Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall’s Wet Walnut and Parsley Pesto, while this Dark Chocolate Fondant with Chestnut and Squash sounds amazing
  3. EVENT Human Kind - The Being Human Festival is a country-wide series of events run by the School of Advanced Study, University of London, in partnership with the Arts & Humanities Research Council and the British Academy that explores the way the humanities can inspire, and help us understand ourselves and our relationship with a changing world. Events include an amazing day of family activities in Milton Keynes, including literary treasure hunts and writing workshops, an exhibition of urban exploration photography in Glasgow and an exhibition of art created by refugees living in the Calais Jungle in Norwich. Find an event near you here
  4. DO Water Music - We’ve been making musical instruments using water and wind this week; it’s a great way to get creative, and learn a little about science on the side. This rainbow water xylophone is very quick and easy to make, and while setting up a glass harp is equally easy, it’s difficult to master (there are some good hints here).
  5. EVENT Keep A Light - November 17 is World Prematurity Day – a global movement run by Bliss to raise awareness of premature birth and the devastating impact it can have on families. This year, there are a series of Little Lights walks taking place across the country aiming to light up the night for premature and sick babies and their families. Grab a lantern, glow stick or candles and join in!
