The elimination of furniture is a step closer to all day natural movement, explains Katy Bowman. It’s an easy step because it does not require more time to live without furniture. It is also a difficult step because it is hard to wrap our modern minds around the fact that furniture, while completely normal is entirely unnatural and does us more harm than good.
The house isn’t entirely furniture free, but Katy has, over time, eliminated those pieces that are most over-used and promote the most over-frequented modern human body position — the passive sit and slouch. Plumbing has also been adapted to make toilet squatting possible (healthier for bowels).
