It’s that time of year, where dryness and dehydration plays havoc with our skin. Our homes need heating, but this does affect our skin health, if we’re not careful! Here are my top tips for keeping your skin health this winter.

1. Be mindful of way you wash and moisturise. Your face does not need very warm water at this time of year, as this will affect it’s natural oil levels. Stick to luke warm water and don’t dry completely, because…

2. The next step would be to moisturise when the skin is still damp to encourage more product to be absorbed. Don’t forget the correct moisturiser for your skin type is a must to give your skin exactly what it needs.

3. Facial and body oils with hydrating and nourishing properties would be best at this time of year. Rose, lavender, chamomile and jojoba are particularly good for helping and soothing dryer skins.

4. Humidify your home and add moisture back into the air to combat the drying heating within your home. Why not use an organic essential oil to uplift or relax the atmosphere, whilst cleansing the air of unwanted toxicity??

5. Cover up and SPF! All your body you needs protection all year round from the weather and sun- natural sunscreen, gloves and scarfs are a must even in these winter months.

6. Hydrate from within by drinking plenty of water (2 litres) and including hydrating foods such as watermelon, cantaloupe, apples, oranges, kiwi, and watery veggies like celery, tomatoes, cucumbers, courgette and carrots into your daily diet. I always have a cucumber water jug in the house or in store!

7. Avoid toxic product with petro-chemicals that can be extra drying to the skin, especially if you have a dry skin condition such as eczema or psoriasis, for example.

8. A night moisturiser is a must, especially if you do suffer from dry areas. Why not try lathering up with a certified organic and natural balm or rich cream on your skin? I would recommend the Wild Rose Beauty Balm from NYR for a great all rounder for face and body.

9. Try to include radiance boosting products with Rose, Almond Oil, Argan Oil and Cocoa Butter to reduce dryness naturally in the harsher winter conditions.

10. Exfoliate very gently if you’re a sensitive skin type, but we do need to remove those dead skin cells that may inhibit the wonderful product you’re using from deeply penetrating the skin layers, for optimum results.

Look after yourself and your skin will benefit!
