I decided to create Nakin (nakinskincare.com) as I have always been obsessed with all things beauty, and all things natural. I have a degree in Wildlife Conservation, but I did not really get to use it after university, as there were not many jobs in that field years ago. I spent about 10 years in marketing, but it never really felt right, so in my spare time I learnt how to formulate skincare products. Following this I started my first organic skincare company, 2 days before giving birth to my first son in 2007. It did really well, but as the years were going by I wanted skincare that was better able to help with the signs of ageing. So in 2016 when I was 42 I started Nakin, and our mission is to help people to have beautiful skin at every age. The face products use powerful actives like hibiscus, hyaluronic acid and seaweed to keep skin looking as good as it can naturally.

SELF-CARE SERCET

As a busy working mum my favourite self-care tip is to get up earlier than everyone else in the house. It’s nice to have a little bit of time when everything is quiet, and I try to do some yoga before the day starts. I also always make time to look after my skin; which just takes a few minutes in the morning and evening to cleanse, treat and moisturise my face and neck.

BUSINESS PLANS

The plans for Nakin over the next year are to spread the message about the range, and how amazing the face products are. It’s a small range of eight essential face products, and contains everything that you need for a face routine. But at the moment we are very small, and lots of people do not know about us.

THREE WAYS TO BE MORE SUSTAINABLE

  1. Always go for the natural options with food. So, I always choose butter and sugar over the processed alternatives, even if they say they have reduced fat and sugar.
  2. Get outside as much a possible, as this is so good for mental and physical health.
  3. Always choose natural skincare options, as I believe that synthetic beauty products are not great for us. Ingredients like retinol are proven to smooth lines out, but can also be really irritating to skin. Natural skincare is kind to skin and works with our natural biology.
