We are lucky to have lovely beaches nearby and beautiful countryside a short drive away. I have a background in science, then later qualified as a nurse, both of which have given me useful insight when developing cosmetic products. There isn’t a specific moment when I decided to create my own products; the creation of Blushberry Botanicals evolved over many months! I started making lip butters for myself and family, then I progressed to hand creams. I wanted to create products which were a natural, vegan, cruelty free alternative to mass produced cosmetics. When I realised that there was a market for natural cosmetics, I researched how to turn this into a business. The branding of my products was developed and designed by my oldest daughter, Jilly (jillyjilly.co.uk) after she graduated from art school.
SELF-CARE SECRETS
Self care is so easy to neglect when you’re busy but I try to ensure that I have time to walk my dog every day. When you work from home (as I do) it’s important for your mental and physical health, to get out of the house and exercise regularly. I also enjoy a soak in the bath with a clay face mask on and a good book!
BUSINESS PLANS
I am currently working on two new products, one is going to be launched in October and the other next year.
THREE WAYS TO BE MORE SUSTAINABLE
- Always check the labels on cosmetics and food. Just because a product is described as natural or organic, doesn’t mean that it doesn’t contain any undesirable ingredients.
- Support local and small scale businesses.
- Lots of small changes add up to make a big difference! Focus on the things you can change instead of worrying about the things you can’t.
