“As parents we have a unique gift of creating the tone of our homes. The environments we create can truly impact the emotional and mental wellness of our children, as well as our own. For many of us we are very used to putting ourselves last as we’ve been conditioned to believe it’s selfish to think of our own needs. It is often a learned behaviour that will continue to be passed down, if we don’t make the choice to take care of ourselves.
Children need to see us being open and honest about how we feel. If we create spaces of openness it will help them to view and process their own emotions in a healthy way. It’s natural to want to hide those parts of us but, when we take the steps to be real and even heal to be healthy in our emotions we are showing that there’s strength in vulnerability.

Here are 3 daily acts you can implement straight away
1 Be intentional - Set time each day to check in with yourself. Ask yourself how are you doing? What kind of support do you need during this time? Even five minutes a day can help.
2 Shift your perspective - Do you have a negative view of self care? Get to know yourself and discover what refuels you, maybe, self awareness is key.
3 Release the guilt - Self care is not selfish, it’s a necessity.
